Vid. Maithreyee Gururaja

Trained in the Mysore (Muguru) style of Bharatanatyam under Guru Kalathilaka Madhava Rao in Udupi from 1988 to 2003, Vid. Maithreyee Gururaja completed her Junior and Senior grade examinations during this period. In 2004, she began training under renowned Guru and choreographer Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy at the Vasundhara Performing Arts Center, Mysore, where she continues her practice. She holds a Vidwath grade in Bharatanatyam and an MA in the art form from Tamil University, Thanjavur.

Performances

She has performed widely in solo, duet, and group productions across prestigious platforms. Notable appearances include the National Dance Festival at Khajuraho, Bangalore Habba, Paryaya Mahotsava in Udupi, Lakkundi Utsava, ISKCON Brahmotsava in Bangalore, and Pravaha Festival in Cochin. She has also performed at cultural venues such as Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, Krishna Gaana Sabha, and SVBC Naadaneerajanam in Tirumala. Her performances have been featured in Vistara and Republic TV alongside her Guru.

Teaching

In addition to her stage career, Maithreyee has served as an examiner for Bharatanatyam examinations at schools in Bangalore, including Hombegowda High School and Karnataka Public School. Since 2021, she has been running her own dance school in Thalaghattapura, Bangalore, where she trains the next generation of Bharatanatyam dancers.

Other Achievements

Her artistic journey extends beyond dance. She is an All India Radio ‘B’ grade drama artist in Kannada and has completed the Junior grade in Carnatic vocal music. During her student years, she was a state-level winner in mono-acting competitions conducted by the Department of Pre-University Education in 1998 and 1999.
