Here are some frequently asked questions and a few general queries you may have about NrithyaMaithreyee Dance Classes.

Which styles of dances will be taught in the class?

At NrithyaMaithreyee, dance classes are conducted for Bharatanatyam only. Vasundhara Style of Bharathanatyam which is an offshoot of the traditional Pandanallur Style is taught. This style of dancing has a well-balanced Nritta and Abhinaya retaining the linear geometry of the Pandanallur style.

What is the minimum age to start learning Bharatanatyam?

Students will be taken above 6.5 years in NrithyaMaithreyee.

How many times a week are classes held?

For beginners  twice a week; Tuesday and Wednesday at 4.30 pm.  After finishing basic level, classes will be thrice a week including Fridays.

All classes will be in the evening time. No weekend classes.

What is the duration of each class?

Each class will be held for a duration of an hour. Any  further extensions depends on the student’s level and progress.

What is the fee and guidelines regarding fee payment?

Starting fee is Rs.1000 per month. 

Fees should be paid from 1st of that month to  29th of every month. 

Example : October month fee should be paid between 1st of October to 29th of October. 

If the student attends even a single class in a month, then that month fee should be paid. If the student has notified and is on leave for one whole month – fees shall be waived.

How often are stage programs held?

Every year, the annual day of the dance class will be celebrated with live music. All students can participate in that event, irrespective of their levels.

When outside programs are available, students will be taken to performances only when they are eligible.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes. One or two trial classes will be provided to the student.

What are the dress requirements?
  • Uniform should be stitched by the students. Materials are not given.
  • Female: Dark green colour salwar top. Black salwar pants/stretchable leggings and black cotton dupatta. Senior students should wear a dance practice sari.
  • Males should wear a dhoti or a suitably tailored kurtā pyjāma. Dark green top and black colour bottom and dupatta.
  • All students should have their waist firmly bound.
  • Hair should be pinned away from the face and, if necessary, drawn back in a single plait or bun. A long plait should be secured at the back to prevent its movement distracting from the dance.
  • No dance costume or jewellery should be worn.
  • No dance ankle bells should be worn.
